Explosion Hazard Assessment (EHA)

Explosion Hazard Assessment (EHA) is the first step in identifying explosion hazards in technological processes.

Learn more about EHA

What is EHA?

Identify potential explosion hazards and define appropriate protective measures as early as the design or construction stage.

Explosion Hazard Assessment (EHA) is the initial document used to identify risks related to the potential occurrence of explosive atmospheres within a technological process planned for implementation at an industrial facility. If such hazards are identified during the design phase, the EHA becomes one of the documents required for obtaining a building permit.

A properly developed EHA also serves as the baseline for preparing another document required under Polish law in relation to explosive atmosphere hazards at workplaces—the Explosion Risk Assessment (ERA).

Learn more about EHA

What should an EHA include?

The Explosion Hazard Assessment primarily covers:

  • identification of rooms at risk of explosion;
  • designation of appropriate explosion hazard zones within rooms and outdoor areas, together with the preparation of graphical classification documentation;
  • identification of factors that may initiate ignition within these areas.
Extended scope of the EHA service

By preparing an EHA with us, you receive—beyond the standard scope—additional benefits, including:

  • detailed identification of flammable substances,
  • detailed guidelines necessary for selecting appropriate electrical and non-electrical equipment for explosive atmospheres,
  • ready-made concepts for protecting facilities and installations with systems that minimize the effects of an explosion, where the assessment has shown such measures to be necessary.

What do you gain by having an EHA?

We guarantee that the EHA prepared by our team provides an optimal basis for the efficient development of the next legally required document—the Explosion Risk Assessment (ERA).

In addition to meeting legal requirements and supporting the building permit process, preparing an EHA with us ensures that, once the assessment recommendations are implemented, the facility and technology can be commissioned without difficulty. It also guarantees that all equipment and technical solutions proposed by us are optimally selected from a cost-efficiency perspective and applied only where genuinely required.

Who should prepare an EHA?

The Explosion Hazard Assessment should be prepared or held by the investor, designer, or the party responsible for defining the technological process, such as the Employer.

Regulations do not require this document to be prepared independently; therefore, the task may be entrusted to a specialized company—such as ours—which has over 10 years of experience in delivering such assessments across virtually all industrial sectors. Whether you are an investor, designer, or Employer is irrelevant to us—we are able to support each of these roles. During the preparation of the EHA, we cooperate with all parties involved in the execution of the project.

The EHA prepared by us meets all applicable legal requirements and includes additional elements that ensure the newly constructed facility is comprehensively protected from an explosion risk perspective.

Worth knowing

Legal obligation

The Employer’s obligation to prepare an ERA results directly from § 4(4) of the Regulation of the Minister of Economy of 8 July 2010 on minimum occupational health and safety requirements related to the possible occurrence of explosive atmospheres in the workplace (Journal of Laws 2010, No. 138, item 931).
